DaffSeek Design and Development

Ben Blake, of California, United States, designed and developed DaffSeek, a daffodil photo database and query system. It took an imaginative mind and extraordinary skills to visualize an Internet tool that would be useful for a wide range of Daffodils enthusiasts. He has contributed countless hours to make DaffSeek the tool that you enjoy today. Ben's vision for DaffSeek is to provide tools for daffodil hybridizers as well as be an informative resource for daffodil growers. This vision is far from complete, so you can look forward to many new features currently in Ben's imagination!

Lachlan Keown, of South Island, New Zealand, is a DaffSeek developer, and has a distinct interest in hybridizing tools. Lachlan approached us with a prototype genealogy program for DaffSeek. Ben and Lachlan were able to take this prototype and customize it to function with the seed and pollen parent information contained in DaffSeek. This was no easy undertaking because some daffodil parents have very complex crosses. Lachlan has already contributed many hours to DaffSeek, and is enthusiastic about the next features he is planning for DaffSeek.

Digital Photo Management

Nancy Tackett of California, United States, coordinates with contributing photographers to receive CDROM's, DVD's, and email's with digital photos. She works with 170 photographers from 15 countries to acquire daffodil photographs. Nancy initiates the processing and photo updating process for DaffSeek. When a person on the Internet requests permission to use a DaffSeek photo, she acts as a coordinator or agent between the original photographer and the requestor to obtain permission to use the photo.

Information Management

DaffSeek data was collected from various sources and has increased over many years. Much effort has been made to coordinate with the growers, hybridizers, raisers, and experts to validate, correct, and edit this data. DaffSeek currently has about 18,000 data records for daffodil varieties.

Nancy Tackett collects daffodil information from a variety of sources and prepares these for loading into DaffSeek. Nancy receives new information primarily from Mary Lou Gripshover, hybridizers, and notable daffodil growers for inclusion into DaffSeek.

Mary Lou Gripshover of Ohio, United States, is the American Daffodil Society liaison with the Royal Horticulture Society. She receives new daffodil registrations from hybridizers in the U.S. and world-wide daffodil registration information from the Registrar of the Royal Horticulture Society. Mary Lou continually reviews DaffSeek information and photos for accuracy. She is one of the two primary testers for DaffSeek's initial version as well as for new features. She is considered the 'mentor' for DaffSeek.

Testers

Tony James of England, is one of the two primary testers for new DaffSeek features. Tony's extensive testing of functions ensured a problem-free implementation of the initial version of DaffSeek and its subsequent features. Tony's ideas and opinions about the intricate workings for new functions are greatly appreciated.

Peter Ramsay of New Zealand, Derrick Turbitt of Northern Ireland, Harold Koopowitz of California, and Bob Spotts of California all serve on the ADS Internet Services Committee and provide DaffSeek testing support. This team is comprised of international & U.S. members thus giving valuable feedback about new functions as well as DaffSeek's overall performance in a variety of regions.

DaffSeek Photography

The beautiful photographs in DaffSeek are one of our brightest and most popular features.  The American Daffodil Society would like to thank and acknowledge the 170 photographers from 15 countries who contributed their photos to DaffSeek.  Without the generosity of these talented photographers, a vital feature of DaffSeek would not be possible.
